Conflict Transformation Coaching: Supporting Change in Conflict Interaction Through One-On-One Conversations
Association for Conflict Resolution 2011 Annual Conference in San Diego
Pre-Conference Workshop, Wednesday, October 12
Dorothy J. Della Noce, J.D., Ph.D.* & Kay Julien, Ph.D.
Through conflict coaching, conflict resolution practitioners offer support at the one-on-one level for people who are struggling with conflict interaction. The relational principles of the transformative approach to conflict offer a solid theoretical foundation for coaches who want to support individuals in changing the quality of their conflict interactions. This workshop explores how practitioners can assist clients in responding to conflict through empowerment and recognition, and use those same principles to guide their own interactions with clients. Two experienced practitioners in the conflict transformation domain will guide participants in linking theory and practice, exploring strategies for coaching within a transformative framework, and developing practical skills and techniques. Both face-to-face and online communication skills will be included in the discussion. Ample time will be allotted to practical skill building exercises and dialogue.
